What is the App Installer?
The App Installer is a software component of Windows 10. It is used for installation and maintenance of applications. The App Installer is based on a database scheme which implements user-defined properties and dictionaries. This allows the user to distinguish new and upgrade installation scenarios.
You can install an app using the App Installer from a web-accessible URL. The App Installer can initiate the installation from a network share or from a local file share.
The App Installer file is a XML file which contains information about the app. When you open the App Installer, it shows the app name, publisher, and version. There is also a logo displayed.
In the event of an unsuccessful installation, the status is changed to "Failed" and a Windows message is displayed. Users can try to right-click the icon and select "Open with". If this does not work, try long-pressing the icon.
If the Windows Store does not appear, try searching for an app installer. A window will appear allowing you to download the app.
For a more robust update check, you can configure the HoursBetweenUpdateChecks option. This option defines how often App Installer should check for updates. By default, this is set to zero hours. However, you can change this to a value of up to twenty minutes.
When you click "Get to install" from the App Installer, the installation process may start immediately or take up to twenty minutes. In some cases, the user will be prompted to sign into the store with their Microsoft account.
